What do I need to use the Libraries?
Your student ID card is also your library card. You will need it to borrow items from any of our libraries, and also to gain access through the controlled gates at our main Kenrick Library. Your library Borrower Number can be found on the card, above the barcode - you will need this and your PIN when using self-service.
What is my PIN and where do I get it from?
Your library PIN (Personal Identity Number) serves the same function as a bank PIN and you should keep it safe in the same way. It allows you, in conjunction with your Borrower Number, to use all our self-service options. Your PIN will be sent to your University email address after you have enrolled on your course – you can change it via 'My Library Record' on the library catalogue. If you don't receive it, please ask at the Lending Services Help Desk.
How many books can I borrow and for how long?
Undergraduates can borrow up to 12 items, postgraduates can borrow up to 15 items, and staff and research students can borrow up to 20 items.
Most loans are for five weeks, although some items are loaned for shorter periods, varying between four hours and two weeks. Refer to the date label if you're unsure.
How will I know when my books are due for return or renewal?
Return dates are stamped on the date label or detailed on your self-service receipt. To help you manage your loans, library reminders are sent to your University email address. Please check it regularly. You can also view details of your loans via ‘My Library Record' on the library catalogue. We let you know in advance when your books are due, to minimise the risk of you incurring fines. You can also renew your books over the phone or online.
