Our Excellent Research

Excellent ResearchBirmingham City University proudly acknowledges the areas of research excellence that have developed over the years since RAE 2001 and the breadth, diversity and quality of its research has continued to expand and develop significantly ever since.

Our high quality work has led to us being recognised for our research excellence at national and international levels, and achieving outstanding success in RAE 2008. Our RAE 2008 success was rewarded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) with nearly £1.8 million of ‘quality-related’ funding. Our excellent research has also resulted in the University being given funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, in the form of an AHRC block grant, an award given to exceptional research organisations for allocation of postgraduate studentships in specific areas of research ie master's or doctoral degrees.

These accomplishments were subsequently recognised by the University and its support of research has been further enhanced with the investment in the new Centres of Excellence which are the focus for research. Through these Centres, we are maintaining this high standard and also nurturing the research base to further increase the levels of excellent research being carried out across the University.
