Lonely Planet has launched a free digital guide telling you all you need to know about studying and living in Britain’s vibrant second city.
Birmingham City University, with fellow education partners and Marketing Birmingham, have teamed up with global travel experts Lonely Planet to produce a dynamic guide in the format of an iPhone app.

Based on the highly successful Lonely Planet mini-guide – entitled ‘Birmingham: Your Life Starts Here’ – the app version combines high-tech functionality with expert local knowledge to create the comprehensive guide to both the academic and exciting social life in the rejuvenated Birmingham metropolis.
Functions on the Birmingham student and graduate guide, include:
- detailed info on Birmingham City University and other higher educational partners based in the city
- Lonely Planet write-ups on Birmingham’s heritage, culture and ‘things to do’
- best places to eat, drink, see, sleep and shop - complete with reviews
- interactive offline maps to get you to all the top spots
- stunning gallery images of Birmingham sights.
Whatever your interests, whether you’re a sports fan or a culture vulture, this app has all the information you need to help you get the most out of this diverse city and your university.
To produce this Lonely Planet app Birmingham City University has worked with the University of Birmingham, Aston University, University College Birmingham and Newman University College, Birmingham, who together represent a 70,000 strong student community.
