Course Structure
Exploratory Stage
At this stage you will be introduced to wide range of activities and workshops designed to equip you with the basic skills required to make informed choices for your pathway choice. Projects enable you to develop creative ideas and experiment with media, processes and technologies. Historical and theoretical contexts are also embedded in the introductory phase.
Pathway Stage
By this stage you will have chosen your specialist area of study and will prepare a portfolio for progression, applying to your prospective university through UCAS. Individual guidance from staff will help you develop a body of work that is appropriate for your choice.
Final Major Project
The final phase of the course will involve you writing, planning and organising your own project. This will conclude with an exhibition of your work put on at the same time as the BA Art and Design Degree Shows within the university.
Assessment
Assessment takes place at the conclusion of each stage of the course and is based on the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC assessment criteria for each stage.
After your studies
Further Studies
If you successfully complete the course you have the right to progress directly to an appropriate HND or undergraduate course within the faculty.

Employment Opportunities
Most students completing the course go on to study on a range of higher education courses in art and design, while some progress directly on to work in the art and design industries.

Foundation students are eligible to live in the University halls of residence. These are located within easy travelling distance to Bournville. Further information about this will be sent on the offer of a place.

If you are 19 or over on the year of entry you will have to pay your own fees, you should be aware that the course is classified as further education so there are no student loans available. The fees are £1200 including the Edexcel registration fee for the current academic year. Overseas students will pay £7000.
